Shareholder Pawel Binczyk Speaks to Trump Verdict on Maine Public Radio’s Maine Calling

On May 31, Maine Public’s Maine Calling featured Shareholder Pawel Binczyk on a special episode analyzing the Former President Donald Trump’s guilty verdict. The day prior, Former President Trump was found guilty on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records in connection with a hush money payment to adult film actor Stormy Daniels in 2016. The verdict came on the second day of deliberations from the 12-person jury.

Pawel, a litigator who has tried dozens of jury cases, including felony criminal cases, provided broad insight into the case, including how the appellate courts work, the impact this may have on the election, what this means for Former President Trump’s rights as a private citizen and running candidate, the prosecution’s strategy in proving Former President Trump’s crimes, and how this trial is making history:

“Love it, hate it, however you feel about this verdict—we’re living through a time when our constitutional conventions and norms are going to be challenged. Over the next year, our appellate courts are going to have to make decisions that are going to shape legal history.”

Pawel joined panelists Mark Brewer, Professor and Chair of the Department of Political Science at the University of Maine, and Ron Schmidt, Professor of Political Science at the University of Southern Maine.
