Bernstein Shur Expands Litigation Team with Attorneys Joshua Burger, Lucas Fortier and Alexander Read

Bernstein Shur, one of Northern New England’s largest law firms, is pleased to welcome associate attorneys Joshua Burger, Lucas Fortier, and Alexander Read to its Litigation and Dispute Resolution Practice Group.

Joshua is a commercial litigator who joins the firm from Debevoise & Plimpton in New York, where he worked on numerous bet-the-company matters and gained experience working on all stages of litigation, from pre-litigation and discovery to trial and appeals. Previously, Joshua was a law clerk for the Hon. John A. Woodcock, Jr. of the United States District Court for the District of Maine. He earned his J.D. from Columbia Law School and his B.A. from Bowdoin College, departmental honors.

Lucas is a commercial litigator who joins the firm from WilmerHale in Boston, where he represented companies in a broad array of legal areas and industries, including litigation and government investigations with millions or billions of dollars at stake.  Previously, Lucas worked as a law clerk for the Hon. Sandra L. Lynch of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit and for the Hon. Nathaniel M. Gorton of the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts. Lucas earned his J.D. from the Boston University School of Law, summa cum laude, and his B.A. from Colby College, summa cum laude.

Alex is a real estate litigator who joins the firm from Verrill Dana in Boston and Portland, where he worked in the trial practice group on real estate and construction matters, among others. Previously, Alex spent seven years in the United States Marine Corps, most recently serving as a Captain. He continues to serve in the military as a Judge Advocate in the Maine Army National Guard. Alex received his J.D. from the University of Maine School of Law and his B.A. from the University of Chicago.

Joshua, Lucas and Alex join a growing Litigation and Dispute Resolution Practice Group, with attorneys representing clients out of both the Portland, Maine, and Manchester, New Hampshire offices. “Josh, Lucas and Alex are talented team members who will further support the work of the department handling complex, high stakes matters,” said Shareholder Ned Sackman, Co-Chair of the Group alongside Shareholder Paul McDonald. “Josh, Lucas, and Alex each possess stellar credentials and have had significant experience in sophisticated litigation matters,” said Paul. “This terrific trio adds great depth and quality to our litigation practice group.”
