Evi Woodlinn Interviewed by WMTW, Advises on Legal Protections for the LGBTQ+ Community Post-Election
PORTLAND, Maine (November 15, 2024) – Shareholder Evi (Englert) Woodlinn (she/they), head of the firm’s Family Formation Practice Group, was interviewed for a WMTW News 8 segment, “Legal Protections for the LGBTQ+ community post-election: What to Know.”
Evi helps her clients navigate the legal process of building and protecting a family, including through assisted reproductive technology, adoption, or surrogacy. They were able to provide insight into legal considerations for members of the LGBTQ+ community before the Trump Administration takes office.
In the segment, Evi speaks about the rights Mainers currently have for making changes to gender markers or names.
“Currently, changes to those types of documents can be made without medical documentation or a court order,” said Evi. “However, these documents are governed by federal law, so they could be impacted by the new administration.”
Evi recently published a more comprehensive article on the topic, Safeguarding Yourself, Your Family, and Your Legacy: A Post-Election Guide for LGBTQ+ Mainers.
Evi was interviewed for the segment along with other leaders in the LGBTQ+ community, including Gia Drew, executive director at EqualityMaine, and Mary Bonauto, senior director of civil rights and legal strategies at GLAD Law.
