The Millennial Revolution in Electrical Transmission

Attorney Jamie Broder, and his colleagues Chris Aslin and N. Joel Moser, authored a chapter titled “The Millennial Revolution in Electrical Transmission” as part of a Thomson Reuters “Inside the Minds” series. This series was “conceived to give a first-hand look into the leading minds of top business executive and lawyers worldwide and presenting an unprecedented collection of views on various industries and professions.”

The chapter offers the reader an opportunity to examine that revolution in electric transmission through the eyes, and “Inside the Minds” of the lawyers who are living it. Our attorneys are honored to appear beside former FERC Commissioner Suedeen Kelly, and Clint Vince, Chair of the Global Energy Practice at Dentons as authors of other chapters in this volume.

“It was not so long ago when the vertically integrated electric utility owned the generation, the transmission, the distribution, and, effectively, the customers. Moreover it was inconceivable that it could ever be any different. By 1978 federal law and policy had made room for separately owned generation and by the start of the millennium the place was set for further changes radical change in transmission and consumer choice of electricity providers at the retail level.“
