Bernstein Shur Expands Leadership Team with the Addition of Rebecca Asen as Director of Attorney Recruiting and Professional Development

April 6, 2022 — As part of Bernstein Shur’s commitment to meet the current and future needs of its clients, the firm announces that Rebecca Asen, former Associate General Counsel at IDEXX, has joined the senior leadership team as Director of Attorney Recruiting and Professional Development.

In this role, Asen will lead the firm’s efforts to recruit and retain top legal talent while overseeing professional development programs that reinforce Bernstein Shur’s strategic vision and core values.

While Bernstein Shur has hired 18 attorneys in the past two years, this is the first time the firm will have a full-time recruiter as part of its professional staff. Bernstein Shur CEO Joan Fortin was previously the firm’s Director of Attorney Recruiting while also practicing law as a shareholder of the firm.

Asen spent the past three years as part of the in-house legal team at IDEXX. Prior to IDEXX, Asen worked as a corporate and securities attorney at Sidley Austin in New York City and later in Portland, ME.

Originally from Casco, ME, Asen earned her undergraduate degree from Barnard College and her law degree from Georgetown University Law Center. She also serves as a director of the Finance Authority of ME and a director of Preble Street.

Asen and her husband have three young children.
