Bernstein Shur Welcomes Molly Barker Gilligan, Beth A. Smith and Michael A. Siedband to the Firm

Bernstein Shur, one of northern New England’s largest law firms, welcomes Molly Barker Gilligan, Beth A. Smith and Michael A. Siedband to the firm’s Portland, ME office.

Molly Barker Gilligan

Molly Barker Gilligan joins the firm’s Health Care and Litigation Practice Groups. Her practice will focus on health care legal issues, including licensure and license defense of ME health care practitioners and provider agencies, fraud and abuse compliance, and healthcare confidentiality advice, counsel, risk management, and defense of Office of Civil Rights and other Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act-related complaints.

Prior to joining Bernstein Shur, Gilligan was an associate at a Philadelphia, Pennsylvania firm, where her practice focused on administrative law and appellate litigation. In addition, she provided consulting and training to law firms on the topic of technology for legal professionals. Gilligan was a judicial intern for the Hon. Jon O. Newman of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and the Hon. Alvin W. Thompson of the U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut.

Gilligan earned her JD from Quinnipiac University School of Law, where she served as the Associate Editor of the Health Law Journal. She earned her BA from the University of ME. Gilligan is admitted to practice in the state of ME and commonwealth of Pennsylvania and is co-chair of the ME State Bar Association’s Technology Committee. She resides in North Yarmouth, ME.

Beth A. Smith

Beth A. Smith joins the firm’s Real Estate Practice Group. Her practice will focus on representing and advising both individuals and entity clients on a variety of commercial and residential real estate matters, including purchase and sale transactions, title matters, subdivision development, boundary disputes, leasing and real estate litigation.

Smith earned her J.D. from the University of New Hampshire School of Law, magna cum laude, and earned her BA from Dartmouth College. She was editor in chief of the University of New Hampshire Law Review. Smith served as a judicial intern to the Hon. James P. Bassett of the Supreme Court of New Hampshire and to the Hon. Joseph N. Laplante of the U.S. District Court for the District of New Hampshire. A graduate of UNH’s Daniel Webster Scholar Honors Program, Smith is admitted to practice in the state of New Hampshire, and her ME bar admission is pending. She resides in Kennebunk, ME.

Michael A. Siedband

Michael A. Siedband joins the firm’s Business Restructuring and Insolvency Practice Group. His practice will focus on business restructuring and insolvency proceedings, including chapter 11 reorganizations, asset sales and acquisitions, and bankruptcy-related litigation.

Prior to joining Bernstein Shur, Siedband served for two years as a law clerk to the Hon. Bruce A. Harwood and the Hon. J. Michael Deasy of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of New Hampshire. Prior to his clerkship, he was an associate at Looney & Grossman, LLP in Boston, Massachusetts, where he focused on bankruptcy, restructuring and commercial litigation.

Siedband earned his JD from Boston College, where he was managing editor and staff writer for the Uniform Commercial Code Reporter-Digest. He earned his BS from Boston University, magna cum laude. Siedband is admitted to practice in the commonwealth of Massachusetts. He resides in Portland, ME.
