Bernstein Shur, one of northern New England’s largest law firms, announced the addition of Ann M. Freeman as an of counsel attorney in the firm’s Municipal & Governmental Services and Labor & Employment practice groups. She joins the firm’s Portland, ME office.

Freeman’s practice will focus on helping our public-sector clients with the myriad municipal and labor & employment law matters that arise in the day-to-day running of a local government. Her experience includes negotiating labor contracts and responding to grievances, compliance with state and federal human resources laws, drafting ordinances, helping to craft economic development programs, handling issues related to property tax matters and automatic foreclosures, and representing clients in civil litigation, including representing clients before state courts, boards and agencies, and before municipal boards.

She served as Associate Corporation Counsel for the City of Portland, Labor Relations Manager for the University of Southern ME, Ethics and Compliance Manager for Bath Iron Works, and as a litigation associate at a Portland, ME based firm.
