Bernstein Shur’s Ned Sackman chairs record-breaking breakfast for the New Hampshire Campaign for Legal Services
On May 4, the annual breakfast to support New Hampshire’s civil legal aid organizations, 603 Legal Aid and NH Legal Assistance, raised nearly $126,000—a record for the event.
Event chair Ned Sackman, a shareholder in Bernstein Shur’s Manchester office, partnered with 2023 campaign chair Megan Hilson of Brady Sullivan Properties and Sarah Palermo, the Executive Director of NH Campaign for Legal Services (NHCLS), to raise funds at the breakfast.
“Ned, who assumed the role of chairman last fall, made an immediate impact with his remarkable energy and dedication,” said Palermo. “His passion for access to justice and genuine appreciation for advocates drew new community members, fostering an understanding of the importance of legal aid. We are sincerely grateful for his unwavering commitment and hard work.”
Sackman’s decade of volunteering with NHCLS and his work as a litigation attorney have given him a deep understanding of the importance of legal aid. “88% of individuals seeking domestic violence protective orders lack legal representation, and 62% of them are denied,” said Sackman. “These individuals aspire to break free from abusive partners, protect their children, maintain employment, and lead productive lives. Legal aid offers the vital assistance they need.”
603 Legal Aid is the primary New Hampshire non-profit providing direct legal services to those needing assistance, helping with matters involving housing, domestic violence, and access to benefits. NH Legal Assistance also provides direct assistance, as well as engaging in policy advocacy and long-term broad-based work, like the Justice in Aging Project.
